International Cross Learning Event Women, Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325)
29th June – 3rd July 2009 in Belfast
Stormont Hotel, Upper Newtownards Road Belfast
Chair: Dame Nuala O’Loan, Ireland’s Special Envoy on 1325
The event, comprising a conference and cross-learning workshops offers an exceptional occasion for women from Northern Ireland, East Timor and Liberia to learn from each other. The three themes for the week are:
(i) women in politics and decision-making at national and regional level
(ii) women in local government
(iii) women and decision-making in the community
The event will also provide an important opportunity for women to influence the United Nations on how it takes forward UN Security Council Resolution 1325 – the resolution concerned with ensuring women’s participation in decision-making in conflict and post-conflict developments – which ties in with efforts in Northern Ireland to increase the number of women in politics and public office, in senior positions in regional and local government, in partnership boards and other forums.
