Aims
On completion of this programme, it is intended that participants will have a more focused sense of their personal leadership capacities, a clearer strategy for the future, and an appreciation of the personal challenges and rewards inherent in becoming a leader. In short the programme is intended to ensure that more and more women are better equipped and empowered to emerge as leaders of the future.
The longer-term aim of this programme is to assist in addressing the current low levels of women’s participation in the senior ranks of economic, social, political and public decision-making.
Participants
The Next Generation Leadership programme is open to women who are identified by their sponsoring organisation as leaders of the future, and who are committed to making a difference. The programme is designed to operate with a broad understanding of decision-making and thus welcomes women keen to participate and advance in all aspects of economic, social political and public life.
Our previous participants come from a variety of organisations including: Local government (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland), Queen’s University, Belfast, the Northern Ireland Child Support Agency, the Northern Ireland Land Registry, and the British-Irish Secretariat. They have also come from a variety of careers including: administrators, senior clerical staff, project managers, surveyors, division/department heads, business consultants, training officers and even environmental health officers!
Programme Content
The Next Generation Leadership Programme is an intensive four-day programme (non-residential) based in Queen’s University, Belfast. The programme includes: confidence building, communication skills, successful conflict management, team dynamics, career management, mentoring, time management, public speaking and work/life balance. The programme is designed to be responsive to the needs of women, in an open and flexible manner. These themes will be explored through a mix of seminars, discussions, workshops and action-based activities.
