ConstructionSkills and Construction Youth Trust

(Belfast)

Details
There are two grants available. One is for councils or their partners who have employed women or ethnic minorities in construction related permanent employment. The other is available for those organisations that have put in place schemes which look to promote construction careers to women and ethnic minorities, such as Saturday clubs or work with schools and can demonstrate success.

Councils are eligible for these grants if either people have been employed or promotional work undertaken since November 2006, or planned to be completed by March 2008. Moreover, we are looking to identify individual women and ethnic minority staff who qualify for the scheme alongside their employers. In order to qualify for the scheme, employers must have

  • recruited a women or someone from an ethnic minority between 1st November 2006 and 31st March 2008 who is
  • in a construction related post
  • working in a permanent position
  • undergoing formal academic training
  • gaining some form of internal mentoring or support
  • working to a training plan

You can fill in the forms electronically. We welcome details of any promotional work you have undertaken with evidence of success. This can either be attached (e.g. press releases, existing reports) or included as free text on the attached forms.

There is a need to provide some information in order to qualify for the grants and in order to reduce the time taken for this to a minimum we have produced the attached forms. Details of promotional work and individuals’ are included on the same form to reduce duplication – please fill in the parts you feel are appropriate. The form asks for details of those employees who will qualify for the scheme i.e. those on an apprenticeship or other training programme. The second section of the form (Nominee’s Personal Detail) can be copied in order to give more than one employee’s detail.

We envisage the forms will be completed by someone responsible for training or recruitment of staff and returned to us without having to be sent out to individuals. Please complete as much of the forms as possible and return by 13/08/2007.

If you have any questions please contact Nooshin Akrami; Research Officer or Phil Brennan on 0161 772 1810.
